Congratulations to Zoe Edwards for an outstanding Book One Graduation Recital! Zoe performed at her home in front of a large crowd of supportive family and friends. I know everyone who was there is already looking forward to the Book Two Recital. Great Job!

February 14th, 2010
Valentine's Day was an important day of music making for two of the studio's members. Felix Curtis and Nathan Fajfar both presented their Graduation Recitals from Book One and Book Four, respectively. Each of these violinists performed admirably and easily confirmed their readiness to move on to the next books. Congratulations to you both for outstanding recitals!

January, 2010:
Applause, please, for Amelita Blakeslee, Joseph Orttung, David Rogers, and Lauren Wengrovitz who all participated in this year's 7th & 8th Grade Honors Orchestra Event! Participation was by audition and this select group of young musicians can be heard on Arlington's cable channel under the direction of Risa Browder. Extra appreciation to these young musicians on my part for participating in this event on the same weekend as our Studio Recital! Well done all around!

November, 2009:
Joseph Orttung successfully graduated from Book Four into Book Five after offering a fine Graduation Recital at the Lynn House retirement community. Joseph was accompanied by his mother on piano and entertained a number of the residents with his fine playing. Well done and Congratulations!

November, 2009:
Big Congratulations are due to the six auditionees for the Arlington County 4th-6th Grade Honors Orchestra! Everyone who auditioned was accepted into the group! The audition winners are: Felix Curtis, Zoe Edwards, Anna Love, Addie Pollard, Nora Pollard,  and Isabel Rogers. Great work everybody!

November, 2009:
Congratulations to Lauren Wengrovitz and Katie McKenna for scoring high enough to participate in the 2009-2010 Jr. and Sr. District XII Orchestras, respectively! The competition is extremely high for both of these groups. Nearly one hundred violinists auditioned for the Sr. District XII Orchestra while OVER one hundred violinists auditioned for the Jr. District XII Orchestra. I am very proud of these ladies! Be sure to congratulate them on their accomplishment the next time you see them!

September 20, 2009:
Seven studio members (Calvin, Christine, David, Isabel, Joseph, Katie, and Nathan) participated in the Speedy Tolliver Fiddle Fest at the Madison Community Center this past weekend! This number just seems to keep growing from year to year. Special applause goes to Christine for participating for the first time. We all know how much nerve it takes to get up and perform for a large crowd!

For the first time in the studio's history of participating in this event, studio members swept the awards in the Novice category. Congratulations go to Isabel for First Place, Nathan for Second Place, and Calvin for Third Place! Really well done guys! For those students who haven't gone to this event, or have gone but haven't participated, we are looking to increase our presence next year. Be prepared though - I think that several of our repeat performers might consider moving up to the Old Hands category to make room for some new fiddlers! Show 'em how it's really done....
